Qualifications of the Real Estate Agent

  • What are your qualifications as a real estate agent?
  • You want someone who has experience and has been successful in the past. Be sure to ask the tough questions.
    • What is your track record?
    • Can you provide me with references?

Fees

Be sure you are very clear on all associated Realtor fees

  • What are your fees and how might these fees change as we go through the process?
  • Are there other fees that  might surface as we go through the process?
  • Will this all be in the contract?
  • Who are you working for (buyer or seller)? 
     
     

Pricing Your Charleston Area Home

  • How should we go about pricing our home?
  • When and how do we alter the price during the process?
  • What resources are you using to determine this price range?
  • Work with your agent to decide how much give and take you are willing to live with when it comes to closing a deal.

Realtor Contracts and Guarantees

  • Will there be a contract for the selling / pricing process?
  • What steps do you take if the house does not sell?
  • Do you have any performance guarantees?
  • Is there a clause in the contract allowing us to part company after a given time frame?
  • If the house does not sell, is there a cost to us?
  • Be sure you know your options up front in terms of getting out of an agreement / contract with your agent. Be sure you understand and are happy with the terms of the contract.

  • What will you do to sell my home?
  • How often will you have open houses?
  • Where and how often do you advertise?
  • Do you have a web site with an MLS listing?
  • Be sure your house is getting exposure. You need to be confident the agent will get it in front of perspective buyers.

Communication with the Realtor

  • How often and through what means will you provide updates?
  • Be sure you know up front how and when your agent will communicate with you so you can stay on top of the process. Be sure you are comfortable with the means and frequency of updates.
